Route Information: May 11, 2014 - Overall Stage Start

The 2014 Amgen Tour of California will begin in Sacramento May 11, featuring 16 of the world’s elite cycling teams and 128 of international cycling’s most accomplished riders competing across more than 720 miles to the finish in Thousand Oaks May 18. This is the ninth annual edition of the race, and this year is presented locally by Sutter Health who is committed to partnering with patients, their family members, and the community to provide high-value, personalized care. As the Overall Start City for the 2014 race, Sacramento will host the 2014 Amgen Tour of California Opening Gala on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. The evening provides the opportunity for community members and cycling fans to share the excitement of welcoming all the participating professional cyclists (many of whom have competed in the Tour de France), race officials, celebrities and other VIPs at the traditional kick-off for the eight-day international event taking place exclusively in California. Sacramento has an abundance of year-round attractions, museums, and entertainment venues tucked into its culturally diverse cityscape. Enjoy local playhouses and the Broadway stage, museums and galleries, poetry readings and film festivals, ballet and opera. Cyclists can enjoy getting away from the metropolitan areas on the 33-mile long American River Bike Trail that connects Folsom to Old Sacramento. Sacramento also boasts a long list of outdoor activities with hundreds of miles of waterways, 2,000 acres of city parks, more than 50 golf courses, and two nearby lakes.
